Tennis: World Cup

Malta Independent Thursday, 6 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 22 years ago

National coaches Horst Heese (seniors) and Mark Miller (Under 21) are expected to name their squads for next week’s clashes against Bulgaria.

The MFA is holding a news conference at Ta’ Qali Centenary Hall early this afternoon where the announcement is expected to be made.

The Under 21 teams meet on Tuesday and the seniors meet in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Both matches are being played at Ta’ Qali.

Neither Heese nor Miller will be expected to make any radical changes to their squads after the good performances against Croatia last month, also at Ta’ Qali.

For Horst Heese of Germany, next Wednesday will see him in charge of the national team for the last time. After the Croatia match, he had ruled out any extension of his contract with the Malta FA.

Meanwhile, it is known that the association is still searching for his replacement, but it is generally believed that among those shortlisted is also Mark Miller, the Under 21 coach.
