Bio Diesel sales hit record high in September: EORC negotiating first export order

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Local consumption of bio diesel reached an unprecedented record high in September with sales exceeding 250,000 litres. Should the same level of consumption be retained throughout the coming months, the target of two per cent bio-fuel set out in the EU Directive will be met. Figures released by the local bio diesel producer, EORC reveal that in the first nine months of this year the total sales in Malta and Gozo exceeded one million litres.

Commenting on this success EORC Commercial Director, Pippo Psaila said, “Local demand for bio diesel has been steadily increasing every month. Reaching such a threshold will place Malta in the top five in the EU 25 league of the biofuels directive.”

Mr Psaila also praised the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment and WasteServ for their efforts to promote bio diesel in Malta. Such efforts, together with ADT’s campaign to reduce vehicle emissions, are imperative to ensure a cleaner environment for the Maltese Islands.

Mr Psaila also confirmed that “EORC’s short-listing in Newsweek and the BBC World Challenge, where the company’s project Fat Chance was short-listed with 12 others from 500 entries world wide, has generated numerous international enquiries for possible joint ventures. Furthermore, the company is currently negotiating its first export order which should materialise in the coming months.”

Mr Psaila also encouraged the Maltese public to support EORC’s participation in the World Challenge by voting for the Maltese project on the website:
