We have witnessed a number of acts of vandalism carried out in different places around Malta. Some were detrimental to our national heritage and others to the environment – obviously at a cost to us, the taxpayers.
Ministers and a number of correspondents in your newspaper have condemned these acts of vandalism and appealed to the public to immediately give any information regarding such incidents to the police.
In my opinion, whoever committed these cowardly acts should not be charged with the acts they committed per se lest the defence submits an insanity plea. The prosecution itself should claim that the perpetrators suffer from insanity and request that, if found guilty, they be subjected to psychiatric treatment at Mount Carmel Hospital.
