So, we hear that Bisazza Street in Sliema is to be turned into a pedestrian zone. Well and good. I have always been in favour of such an idea.
What worries me is the lower part of Tower Road, that is the section leading from the Ferries to Ghar id-Dud. The Malta Independent (15 October) reported that this area will only be partially pedestrianised to allow the use of the Sliema car park.
This would actually mean, if I understood the concept correctly, that this part of Tower Road will only be open to those cars that will make use of the car park. Is this correct? If it is so, this means that this part of Tower Road will not be traffic-free at all, considering the amount of cars that make use of the car park.
I urge the authorities concerned to come up with a plan which should however be discussed with the residents of the area and with businessmen who have shops there. The government should not take such a decision on its own as, after all, it is the residents and the businessmen who will be affected the most. Whether positively or negatively remains to be seen.
