The Wrong move

Malta Independent Friday, 21 October 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I do not think that removing one of the two parents’ days in government schools is the right decision.

It is important that parents get to meet their children’s teacher in the early months of the scholastic year, and then have the chance to meet him or her again later on. By removing one of these days the children’s progress or otherwise cannot be monitored properly.

The Education Division has said that the decision was taken in the interest of the students and to increase the number of school days. If this is the case, then maybe we should go back to the old days, when parents’ days used to be held in the evening. In this way, the children will not lose any school days and at the same time two parents days could still be held.
