The Blues were the better outfit and fully deserved the verdict. The Amateurs were at times erratic in their passing and they also lack a striker.

Sliema drew first blood after nine minutes. A Kurt Lepre flagkick was partially cleared and Valerio Mottola netted with a low shot from the rebound.

In a Melita reaction, Luke Fenech served George Gribbon from a free-kick but the latter’s header missed the upright and Kane Micallef put Julian Galea through but Giuseppe Muscat foiled him with a timely clearance. At the other end, Godfrey Enyc Onybruchi put Jaun Nwoba Obechukwu through but he lobbed over Melita’s bar.

Sliema doubled on 26 minutes. Mottola was tripped in the area and Ryan Borg converted from the spot beating Melita keeper Karl Zahra with a low shot.

Kane Micallef put Julian Galea through but his shot missed Sliema’s upright by inches.

Six minutes before half time Sliema scored a third goal. From a free-kick pass by Julian Galea to Luke Fenech, Mottola won possession in a tackle, advanced and put Obechukwu through who scored with a low shot after selling the dummy to the Amateurs’ keeper who came out of his charge to narrow the angle.

The second period was a balanced affair through Sliema were more effective in their attacks and also had command of the midfield sector.

A cross by substitute Stephen Azzopardi was headed away by a Melita defender and a cross by Scerri found no takers in Melita’s area.

In the second minute of added time Sliema scored the fourth and final goal. Ryan Borg served substitute Nathan Caruana with a cross who headed in from close range with the Melita defenders doing the stands till act.

The Hotspurs dictated matters for long stretches. They are on maximum points from three games. On the other hand the Paolites were rarely in the game managing only three shots at goal two of which came from free-kicks.

After 11 minutes Pieta’ opened the score. From a cross by Daniel Gatt, Pulo headed beautifully in. In a Hibs reaction, a free-kick by Kenward Mifsud was partially cleared but Matthew Schembri drove the rebound over the bar.

Pieta’ doubled on 17 minutes through Glanville Goodlip who scored with a using shot after a Pulo cross and less than a minute later the score became 3-0. Nathan Busuttil won a loose ball in Paola’s half, advanced and shot low from the edge of the area with the ball passing between Thomas Galea’s legs.

The Hotspurs resumed their pressure. Gatt crossed to Pulo, the latter back headed to Nathan Busuttil who drove over the bar. Gatt was put through in the area. Galea partially saved his shot with the ball being cleared, from a Nathan Busuttil pass to Schembri, the latter’s shot hit the upright with Galea beaten, from a Gatt cross a Pulo first-timer missed the upright by a whisker.

On 40 minutes the score became 4-0. Pulo put Goodlip through, the latter crossed to Nathan Busuttil who netted from inside the area past Hibs’ substitute keeper Joswell Caruana.

In a Hibs rare attack, Osbert Ellul crossed to Gary Inguanez but Pieta’ keeper Matthew Camilleri saved his shot to a corner.

In the third minute of added time in the first period Hibs were awarded a penalty when Nathaniel Ebejer was tripped in the area by Gary Busuttil but Kenward Mifsud shot wide from the spot.

Four minutes after restart Pieta’ scored a fifth goal. Nathan Busuttil put Pulo through who after beating two defenders scored with a lobbed ball.

On 52 minutes Hibs were reduced to 10 men as Inguanez was shown the red card for shooting the ball at an opponent when play was stopped for a throw in.

In another Hibs rare attack, Bromwen Bugeja crossed to Osbert Ellul but he failed to apply the killer touch from an ideal position.

Pieta’ made it 6-0 on 75 minutes when substitute Cleaven Cassar crossed to Schembri who scored from inside the area

Two minutes later Hibs scored a consolation goal through substitute Jacob Camilleri after a Julian Vella through ball. In the first minute of added time Goodlip netted the seventh and final goal after a Schembri through ball.
