I write to say that I do not agree with the decision taken by the Education Division to remove one of the two parents’ days at government schools.

Until last year, parents had the chance to meet the teacher of their children twice in a year, normally once in the first term and then a second time after the mid-term examinations.

I believe that this was the right way of doing things. Parents got the chance to address any problems their children might have had very early in the scholastic year, and then meet the teacher again midway through the year to check on any improvements.

As it is now, parents get only one chance of meeting the teacher, and if this happens after the mid-term examinations then it might be too late to correct anything that is wrong. OK, the division says that parents could make appointments with their teacher if needs be, but this might not always be possible.

I think that we should go back to having two parents’ days during the scholastic year. If the division thinks that children are losing too many schools days, well, one day less is not going to make much difference.
