A Good agreement

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The agreement signed by the government and five unions representing employees in the public service has several good points aimed to favour the family.

The added flexibility in parental leave, such as that mothers can take their one-year leave in different batches, is one of the good measures that have been introduced. The career break has been increased from three to five years.

I hope that this would mean that more women will not stop working once they have children. The Maltese economy needs more women participating in the workforce.
