An Interrupted service

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Being a Melita Cable customer and having a summer residence, I switch my TV service by Melita every time I transfer myself to and from my summer house.

This year I asked the company to transfer my service on 1 November, which happened to be the day prior to Budget Day. Like many Maltese, I take great interest in my country’s running and performance, so on Budget Day I follow the budget speech as well as the discussion programmes that follow on the various radio and TV stations. However, at 11.15 pm (on 31 October) I was rudely denied following a TV debate by exponents of the government and the opposition because Melita Cable decided to switch off my service at that hour instead of at midnight as they were contractually obliged to.

Maybe Melita Cable could come out with a justification of technical difficulties and practices. But to the paying customer these do not hold water. The least a customer expects is the service that he/she is paying for and not having to accept the service provider’s own shortcomings.
