The Kappara Roundabout

Malta Independent Wednesday, 16 November 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Many moons ago, the traffic light system installed at the Kappara roundabout stopped operating. It was said that this was part of a monitoring exercise to see whether the traffic would flow better without the lights.

It has to be said that at peak hours there is still a huge traffic jam, especially on the road coming from St Julian’s or down Sliema Road, and also on the road from Tal-Qroqq to Paceville.

With or without the traffic lights, it seems that there will always be traffic problems on the Regional Road. The only solution would be to construct an overhead junction that would enable cars to cross over without needing to stop at the roundabout, which would then become obsolete.

Drivers have been promised this overhead junction for quite some time now but it has never materialised. Is the government planning to do something about it?
