The Malta Police Force has eight brand new Yamaha motor-cycles which will be used for the first time during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next week. These motorcycles are the Yamaha FJR1300, the biggest in terms of power that the Maltese police have ever had.
Yamaha Motor Co. of Japan president Takashi Kajikawa, and Gasan Enterprises Ltd chairman Joe Gasan and managing director David Gasan presented the motor-cycles to assistant police commissioner Josie Brincat at the Gasan Automotive Centre. Mr Kajikawa is currently in Malta attending an international conference, organised by Yamaha Motor Co. of Japan, which is being attended by pan-African Yamaha dealers to celebrate Yamaha’s 50th anniversary.
In view of the size of the Yamaha FJR1300 motor-cycles, and the use to which they will be put, prior to their delivery Gasan Enterprises Ltd, importers of Yamaha motor cycles into Malta, and Yamaha Motor Co. of Japan organised a training course for all the police riders .
“We want to make the Yamaha riding experience as safe as possible,” commented David Gasan, “and these machines will ensure that the police have the best equipment for carrying out their duties efficiently and effectively.”
The training was conducted over a four-day period by Hidenobu Toh, instructor at the Yamaha Riding Academy. The course covered both practical and theoretical aspects, with emphasis on safe handling, manoeuvring, braking and safe driving techniques. A total of 40 police motor-cycle riders underwent the training.
