Last Monday at 1.30pm I walked to the rubbish skip at Marsalforn in the Valley Road area, to throw a small bag (four by eight inches) of rubbish. Both skips were overflowing as usual, with plastic bags and other trash scattered around the skip area.

I placed my little bag on the piled rubbish in the skip which, in my humble opinion, was quite normal. At that very moment two Green Wardens approached and informed me that I was being warned about dirtying the environment. According to their logic, since the skips were full, I should have walked to Qbajjar, where two additional skips are also available, to dump my rubbish. To the individual who is not familiar with Marsalforn, Qbajjar is about a 20-minute walk away from the Valley Road parking area.

I was prudent enough to place my rubbish in an available skip instead of leaving it outside on the pavement since rubbish collection has not been available since October.

The officious wardens should have contacted the proper authorities to empty the skips instead of inconveniencing taxpayers. I think it is their duty to make sure that skips are always available to satisfy demand.

Green wardens should be educated and trained that keeping the environment clean can also be accomplished if they have the initiative and make sure that certain rubbish/cleaning services are actually provided.
