From Mr S. Zerafa
I refer to Kenneth Abela letter “Water and electricity bills” (TMIS, 1 July).
Mr Abela complained that water and electricity bills are not clear enough when accounts are in credit. He said that a small “CR” after the amount due is not enough to stop people sometimes queuing needlessly.
The Water Services Corporation sends out some 7,000 bills every day and before being posted, actual bills (not provisional bills) for accounts that are in credit are hand-stamped “ACCOUNT IS IN CREDIT PLEASE DO NOT PAY”. This is done in black ink as red is universally used when payments are overdue.
Of course it may be that the bill sent to Mr. Abela’s relative “slipped through the net” and was not stamped, in which case an apology from us is in order.
