Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Malta last week was once again evidence of the strong links that exist between this country and Great Britain, and between the Maltese people and Her Majesty.

At every event, the Queen was shown to be smiling, and this meant that she was enjoying herself all the way. Whether it was during the walkabout in Valletta soon after her arrival, with children at the Cottonera Sports Complex or while opening the Grand Harbour marina, Her Majesty appeared comfortable with the surroundings and at ease.

Her connections with Malta, which date back to the post-World War II era, are still strong. She seems to have a special place in her heart for tiny Malta.

For their part, the Maltese also did their best to welcome her in the best way possible. The warmth and enthusiasm shown to Her Majesty are not afforded to any other head of state who visits Malta.
