The Little details

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 December 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 22 years ago

I totally agree with your editorial (TMID, 28 November), which congratulated Malta, as a country, for the professional way it organised the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting last weekend.

There is only one point I would like to make.

Whenever something big is about to happen in Malta, the country gets a much-needed facelift. There is more cleanliness, roads are built or upgraded and the little details that we so often ignore are taken care of.

I just wonder why this does not happen all throughout the year. I do know that people tend to arrange their house when they are about to have visitors, and apparently this is something we also do as a country.

But I think that with some extra attention and more effort, our country could be in ship-shape condition all throughout the year.

As a nation, we have always come out with flying colours each time we organised something. As a nation, we should all strive harder to keep Malta in the best possible shape irrespective of whether we have a head of state coming over.
