Though the main reason why the General Workers’ Union (GWU) headed by Tony Zarb held a protest on 24 November saying no to social burdens, no to unemployment and no to arrogance – a major trait attributed to the Nationalist Party, the primary reason why Republic Street in Valletta was flooded with people was because they were saying “no” to Gonzi’s government.

The people decided to take a leaf out of Mr Zarb’s book and cried out: “Issa Daqshekk”. That is why people from all walks of life turned up with all the vigour they could muster.

Will the prime minister and the Nationalist Party be elected again come next election? I sincerely believe that the Maltese are far more intelligent than the Nationalist Party believe them to be and will vote for a Labour government.

If not, then God help us all.
