A Level One Rugby Referees Course was held in Malta, under the instruction of Roy McCoombe from the Scottish Rugby Football Union.
McCoombe is a Regional Referees Assessor for the Scottish RFU which means that he is responsible for the education and grading of Scottish Rugby Referees, to the highest level.
Fourteen trainees and referees, including three ladies, attended the course at the Intercontinental Hotel, which was received with great enthusiasm.
The following Sunday the two senior referees, Don Hewer and Bryan Corlett were assessed in considerable detail by McCoombe. Both referees were commended for their good handling of the games, which is very positive for the future of Rugby in Malta, and shows that the Malta Rugby Referees Association is following the right road.
