The book Vokabularju Tematiku Malti-Franciz (Maltese-French Themed Vocabulary) by Saviour Magro contains about 3000 words that examiners expect students who are sitting for their French ‘O’ Levels to know.

French verbs are in the infinitive, but since this does not exist in Maltese morphology, the book uses “il-mamma” (the root), in the form of the third person, masculine singular in the past perfect tense. Therefore when one needs to translate the verb “boire” (to drink) one should write “xorob” (he drank) and not “tixrob” (drink); “ecrire” (to write) – “kiteb” (he wrote) and not “tikteb” (write).
