Both the Government and the Labour Party are doing their best to provide work for the Maltese people. They sometimes differ in the way they go about attracting investment and creating the right environment for the economy to progress. And this is very good.

What I find disturbing is the fact that the two have opted for golf courses.

I have some points to make:

First, destroying the natural habitats is not progress in the long term and is not sustainable. We already bear the scars of the recent past where under both parties in power, the natural environment was scarred for ever, even if it is with the blessing of MEPA and after doing an environment impact assessment. And do we really need this assessment to see that the natural environment is going to be affected negatively by a golf course?

Second, are there not certain inalienable rules regarding green area? Or can they be bent at will by bringing the excuse, that it is for the interest of the people?

It is true there is need for work to be created, but not at the expense of handicapping our future. I think the government, parties and NGOs have the machinery to find more environmentally friendly ways.

Destroying the environment, even if it is with the blessing of MEPA or environment impact assessments is destroying the environment. Full stop.
