Each time, before Christmas, we get comments from business representatives that the festive season looks bleak and that restaurants are desperate for last-minute bookings.
The GRTU is one such entity that describes the situation as being “doom and gloom”. And yet, it must be said that most of the restaurants that I saw from the outside during Christmas Eve, Christmas lunch, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s lunch were packed to the full with people having a good time.
This, you will say, is expected.
What is even more amazing is that even the days leading up to Christmas and those in between Christmas and the New Year must have been busy times for restaurants. People did not save up money for just the festive days – they continued to spend on meals even before and after.
I do not think that the GRTU should remain so negative when things are clear enough.
