The Malta CHOGM 2005 arrived, with some tension perhaps, successfully stayed and departed with great honours.

I am sure many, if not all of us, are proud that we managed to organise and hold a conference of such magnitude here on our tiny island so successfully. It is a feather in our cap.

Due thanks and congratulations go to the Police Commissioner and all his hard-working corps together with the Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta and his personnel for a job more than well done.

This is good enough proof that if we were to put our heads together we can go miles and miles. Pique is not the answer to our problems; unfortunately for such a small island like ours these are too many and too big. We seem to have more in both quantity and magnitude – political, financial, environmental – the list is endless. Creating such problems is becoming too easy for us but solving them seems to be becoming impossible.

The only reason is that we are hindering, obstructing and using all our

forces to oppose one another. Some

do not really have the interest of the country at heart but put their personal, party’s, club’s, or whatever, interests first.

We do not consider what we can do for our country but the other way around. There are those who not only do not help but do their utmost to destroy the little good that is done.

One wonders if these are the same people who organised the CHOGM so successfully when much more minor things are turned into mountains of problems and difficulties, which cost us handsomely and cause so much unrest, conflict and turmoil in the country and between ourselves.

Let’s all reflect on the CHOGM success and be proud of it. Let us work together as one people that we will be really worth our salt.
