Winter Scheme

Malta Independent Monday, 9 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

The new winter schemes as introduced by the Gozo Channel Co. Ltd are a big help for the tourism industry during the low months. The initiative has, in fact, been praised by all and sundry.

It is sincerely hoped that, if successful – and I have a strong belief that these particular ones will be beneficial – they will be repeated in the future.

They should also, perhaps, be extended to cover other low periods during the year. Perhaps Gozo Channel should study results as to the number of passengers and vehicles that cross over to and from Gozo throughout the year, and come up with similar schemes where it sees that the numbers are low.

Seasonal adjustments in the price of ferry tickets could be a major asset to help the tourism industry in Gozo. By this I do not mean to refer only to the number of foreigners who cross over, but also to the number of Maltese who do so.
