I do not normally drive early in the morning. I am a pensioner who likes to take things easy after so many years of work.
But recently I had to take my niece to the airport at about 7am and I was amazed by the amount of traffic that there is on the road at that hour.
In my working days, I never experienced so many cars and so much confusion. I knew that it was a peak hour time, and that I would take longer than usual to arrive at Swieqi, from where I picked up my niece, and then Luqa.
But I thought that 20 minutes, at the most half an hour, would have been enough. I ended up arriving at Luqa 50 minutes later, and it’s a good thing that my niece wanted to be at the airport two hours before her flight, because otherwise she could have missed it.
I am glad I do not have to go through all the hassle every day, and I pity those drivers who must be on the road at that hour.
I also hope that the authorities concerned know what is happening and that measures will be taken to ease the traffic congestion.
