Unwanted Waste

Malta Independent Wednesday, 11 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 22 years ago

The photo of the carcass that was dumped in the Qormi-Marsa watercourse (TMID, 4 January) is a clear indication that no matter what laws are introduced or enforced, there will still be people who do not have a sense of pride.

To dump waste, including dead animals, in open places is a disgusting practice that should be punished.

We talk a lot about protecting our monuments and heritage sites, and this is a good thing. But we should also safeguard other public places, and I sincerely hope that

the new littering regulations will act as a deterrent.

To make matters worse, the carcass was dumped in a watercourse that was constructed specifically to control flood problems in the area. Imagine what could have happened if this waste had blocked the system and Qormi was flooded as it used to be in the past.
