Thank-you From Brazil

Malta Independent Thursday, 12 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

I am Sr Catherine Aquilina. I have been working in Brazil for 26 years. I am very happy working among the poor families and helping in our Formation House, where at present we have 12 postulants and 15 aspirants between 15 and 22 years of age.

Many of them come from very poor families and we provide everything for them – clothes, books and stationery. We teach them housework, handwork and prepare them for parish work, such as teaching Cathechism, visiting poor and needy families, and others.

Besides this, these girls are helping us to care for about 30 poor children aged between five to 14 years of age, who come every day to our day centre, where we provide them with breakfast and lunch, books, clothes and medicine, apart from helping them with their studies and accompanying them to school in the afternoon.

During the weekends, we call these children for Cathechism and some entertainment. At the same time, we help their families providing monthly hampers and other needs. We also help the sick and the elderly by providing food and medicine and helping them consult doctors, paying their medical treatment and travelling expenses.

We appreciate very much the donations given to us by the Mission Fund through the help of so many benefactors.
