The finalists in the national sporting contests, organised by the Ghaqda Kittieba Sport and sponsored by the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport were announced yesterday.

They are the following:

Athletes with special needs: A. Cordina, J. Bezzina.

Youths: Matthew Asciak (tennis), Diane Borg (athletics), Lara Scerri (athletics), Darren Vella (shooting), Martina Xuereb (athletics).

Team of the Year: Athletics – 4 x 100m relay team (men); Power boats – Chaudron team; Rugby – national men’s team; Snooker – national team; and table-tennis, national men’s team.

Official of the Year: Peter Balzan (waterpolo), Terry Camilleri (snooker), Alfred Ellul Mercer (weightlifting), John Farrugia (waterpolo), Bernard Vassallo (basketball).

Sportswoman of the Year: Sue Abela (bowling), Marcon Bezzina (judo), Lisa Marie Bezzina (athletics), Angela Galea (swimming), Carol Walsh (athletics).

Sportsman of the Year: Alex Borg (snooker), William Chetcuti (shooting), Rachid Chouhal (athletics), Massimo Cremona (table-football), Simon Gerada (table-tennis).
