A New City Gate

Malta Independent Wednesday, 18 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I read your editorial entitled A new City Gate (TMID, 16 January) with great interest.

But, alas, I do not have your same hopes.

Judging from what has been happening since the end of World War Two, I do not see anything concrete happening to make our capital city’s entrance look better.

As you wrote, “plans and counter-plans” have been put forward but there is always something that keeps the

project from moving on, whether it is the bus terminus, City Gate or the old theatre ruins.

I am 58 years old, and I do not think that I will live to see the day when the entrance to Valletta will be one which a “city built by gentlemen, for gentlemen” really deserves.
