What’s The problem?

Malta Independent Saturday, 21 January 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

So many words have been said and written on whether euro should be spelt the English way or the Maltese way, “ewro”.

This is a similar scenario to the one we experienced before Malta joined to European Union as to whether Maltese would have been recognised as an official language or otherwise.

I understand those who push forward the Maltese identity and are proud of our language.

Even I am proud to be Maltese and that just 400,000 people on a tiny island have their own particular language.

But I believe that we are exaggerating matters now. What difference does it make to have the euro spelt the way they spell it in the EU or the Maltese way? It is not going to rise or fall in value!

It would perhaps be better for the authorities concerned to concentrate more on what Malta will be obtaining from the EU. We were promised so many things before we joined, and yet we have seen little so far.
