Reference is made to the report entitled “PBS misses New Year‘s concert for less than Lm200” (TMIS, 15 January).

Allow me to point out that the report is incorrect to say the least. Your readers should be informed that there is more than just the coordination fees to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU ) that have to be considered when calculating the costs of the concert. There are also the broadcast rights fees and the technical charges. I can assure your readers that when all the expenses are taken into account the final cost of the concert would amount to a much higher figure than that quoted in the report.

The real costs and the potential revenue from advertising for the programme meant that the transmission of the concert was not commercially viable.”
