I watched the celebration to confirm Bishop Mario Grech as the new pastoral leader for Gozo and I must say that I was amazed by the level of enthusiasm shown by the Gozitan people.

They turned up in their hundreds to greet the man who has replaced Bishop Nikol Cauchi after 38 years of dedicated service to the spiritual needs of the Gozitans. I believe that what took place last Sunday can be interpreted as a big thank-you to the outgoing bishop and a warm welcome to his successor.

I also would like to express my appreciation for the work done by Bishop Cauchi for Gozo. He was an example to be followed.

I would also like to wish the best of luck to Bishop Grech in his new mission. The people of Gozo should be proud to have him as their pastoral leader and may God be with him in his difficult task.
