The European Union has relaunched its campaign to see its Constitution being accepted in all member countries.

The Constitution as presented last year has got the thumbs-down in both France and Holland, effectively stalling the process because all countries need to ratify it – for the Constitution to come into force.

There are two questions that need to be asked.

Will there be changes to the Constitution as presented in its original form and, if yes, will those countries, including Malta, that have already ratified it, need to go through the whole process again of ratifying it?

Malta, as said, has already given its go-ahead to the Constitution in what can be considered as an exceptional vote taken in Parliament last summer, considering that for once all the Members of Parliament agreed on something.

The discussion on the European Constitution has started again in Europe, but in Malta the issue has so far been kept on the back-burner by the two political parties. It would be interesting to know what they are thinking about the matter.
