I refer to the article entitled “Lifts at Law Courts still not functioning – Anglu Farrugia” (TMID, 24 January), wherein Labour MP Angelo Farrugia was reported as stating that the two lifts at the main entrance of the law courts are still not functioning.

It should be brought to the attention of your readers that all necessary measures were taken immediately after the lifts were reported non-operative. From the investigation conducted by the maintenance contractor, it resulted that the faults were beyond routine repairs, and for this reason it will take some time for them to be carried out. Furthermore the spare parts are not readily available. Nevertheless the Court administration is doing its utmost to restore the functionality of these lifts in the shortest time possible.

It should be pointed out however, that a brand new lift complementary to the two in question was installed last year by the administration. The lift is not only bigger in capacity, surpassing both lifts put together, but is also more easily accessible by the public and employees.
