Malta Independent Wednesday, 1 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

On 29 January, Chinese all over the world heralded the start of the “Year of the Dog”. The Hong Kong Tourism Board, together with Cathay Pacific invited the Malta Tourism Authority to take part in the celebrations marking the Chinese New year.

A group of 40 persons led by MTA’s executive chairman, Romwald Lungaro Mifsud and comprising representatives of the MTA and Maltese folk groups, took part in the International Chinese New Year Parade, along the main streets of Hong Hong.

The parade consisted of a procession of local and overseas floats, costumed performers, cultural troupes, musicians and marching music bands. The Maltese participation was based on Maltese history and the era of the Knights of St John. This performance was a unique opportunity for the promotion of Malta’s tourism sector in the Asian countries. During his stay in Hong Kong, the MTA chairman met a number of officials from important tourism organisations.
