No doubt with justifiable pride, the government has announced that work has started on the road from Victoria to San Lawrenz in Gozo.

Well, not work, exactly, but the “first set” (thereby presuming a second, and possibly third, set) of “trial holes”, obviously because there are insufficient holes at the moment.

Only when these holes have been tried, and doubtless been acquitted, will work proper start on this road.

What’s the betting that this will occur in July and August? The rebuilding of the road to Xlendi has been scheduled to start in June. That’s right. To start. In June.

Road building, and inevitable road blockage, has become as much a feature of summer on Gozo as the festas.

Small wonder that the tourists keep pouring in.

Anybody can start a project, but can anybody finish one?

The ferry terminals are a perfect case in point. The Duke of Edinburgh site is another. Chambray is... well, everybody knows what Chambray is.

Will we actually live to see these developments finished?
