Finding A solution

Malta Independent Sunday, 12 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

I refer to Mr R. Camilleri’s letter “Flooding in Swieqi” (TMIS, 5 February). I am one of the five residents in Triq it-Tiben, who has to cope with regular flooding. Contrary to what Mr Camilleri indicated, the difficulties we experience in Triq it-Tiben fall under the jurisdiction of the Swieqi Local Council, while the flooding at the bottom part of St Andrew’s Road (by Sunrise Bar) is probably the responsibility of the Central Government.

The flooding experienced by the five families living in Triq it-Tiben, has always been reported to the local council, but no council member ever came to see for himself, particularly when it rains heavily, as recently was the case. The only time I reckon the council had taken some sort of action was when I filed a judicial protest and an inadequate solution was provided.

I believe that the only way we can prevent our homes and basements from further flooding is by completely removing the sleeping policeman. However, it has been years of trying to convince the council on this matter.

Recently, I again contacted the local council in order to solve this problem once and for all, but to this present day no sort of action has been taken. I am sure that if this happened to any of the council members they would have immediately remedied the situation!

I hope that within the shortest time possible this long outstanding problem of having our garages and homes flooded will be solved without any further interventions from us residents.
