Tourism Strategy

Malta Independent Wednesday, 15 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, Romwald Lungaro Mifsud, has been reported as saying that Malta needs to rethink the way it runs its tourism business (TMID, 8 February).

He knows what he is saying.

The tourism industry cannot rely on past successes, but needs to be constantly updated to keep in line with the strong competition that exists not only from other Mediterranean countries, but also from other parts of the world.

Malta relies heavily on this industry and we cannot afford to fall behind. We need to market Malta in the best way possible so as to continue bringing over more and higher-spending tourists.

Mr Lungaro Mifsud deserves all the support he can get – especially from the stakeholders who stand to lose the most if this industry finds itself in difficulty.
