Health And safety seminar for employers

Malta Independent Thursday, 23 February 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Institute of Health and Safety (IHS) recently held a seminar to discuss specific topics and concerns with regard to employers’ rights and responsibilities vis-a-vis occupational health and safety.

Representatives from all the major trade unions and the public and private sector attended.

The first speaker, Dr Luigi Sansone, highlighted the legal aspects of health and safety at the workplace, tackling issues that are now a reality for Maltese employers.

Chris Hudson spoke about management of health and safety, highlighting the advantages and commercial gains to be reaped if this is handled correctly. In a second presentation, Mr Hudson identified practical methods to increase the value individuals can have at their place of work by identifying competency as a specific goal for improved business operations.

This event is one in a series of activities the Institute of Health and Safety is organising this year, which happens to be its tenth year of operations in Malta.

Other milestones will include the running of internationally accredited courses in health and safety, including the NEBOSH International Certificate and courses by the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health (CIEH).
