The Commissioner for Children is right to insist that the government should hurry up and come up with a Children’s Act that would bring all legislation regarding children under one roof, so to speak.
Children need to be protected against old and modern types of harm. We are today more conscious about what their rights should be – and these should be protected right from the start. We hear about so many sad stories involving children and therefore, the government should do its utmost to complete the draft legislation and table it in Parliament.
I am sure that the Opposition, like the government, has children at heart and there is a great chance that the law, when proposed, should pass with a unanimous vote.
I believe that this is one of those laws where consensus can be reached.
