I declare that – contrary to what was stated in an article announcing the publication of a Concise Maltese-English Dictionary by Midsea Books Ltd (see, for example, The Times of Malta, 10 February) – I had nothing to do with the abridged version of Aquilina’s dictionary. I was originally contacted by the publishers before the work began four years ago, but now I see that the criteria for abridgement I had suggested then were totally disregarded and other criteria were adopted by whoever did the job.

Hence it is not correct to associate my name with a work in which I had no say and no part whatsoever.
