I am surprised that we have heard nothing (on the recent works undertaken by the Rabat local council near the St Paul’s Crypt in Rabat) from the various defenders of our heritage and environment, who normally are in the forefront on environmental issues like they all were on the government’s golf course proposal.

I would like to ask – where are the environmental organisations such as Din l-Art Helwa and the Ramblers Association, which normally take the front row in their criticism when similar “incidents” occur? There is so much quiet on this issue.

I also ask: where is the Superintendence and Heritage Malta and, since this Crypt lies within the confines of a church, where is the Curia and its commission? Do we have to listen only to the Rabat local council’s expert who happens to be a Labour MP?

Usually, (as with the government’s golf course proposal) all these state that in such issues, we have to remain above politics and express their criticism. But now what? Can anyone guide us on whether what has taken place is correct or otherwise?
