My cousin and I are researching our family tree and are wondering to whom we could turn for help in Malta.

The reason we need this help is that our great-grandfather, Joseph Wall, came from Malta and moved to UK sometime between 1901 and 1908 (when my grandmother was born).

We believe that he was a cook on board a merchant vessel that sailed to the Newcastle area in the UK. We also understand that his surname at the time was Gauci (we were told it was pronounced Gogi and this is the closest that my husband, a linguist, could come up with).

On arrival in the UK he changed his name to Wall and married a Scottish lady.

We would very much like to contact any relatives who are still in Malta as my husband and I are planning a trip to the island later this year.

Could you please point us in the right direction?
