Msida – The Way forward

Malta Independent Thursday, 9 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

I refer to the letter written by my friend Dr Carmelo Grima, Msida mayor (TMID, 6 March).

In his letter, Dr Grima was surprised with the fact that the Labour leader criticised the PN-led Msida local council for failing to deliver what was promised for three consecutive elections. What Dr Sant mentioned and referred to in his press conference was in fact backed by extracts from the PN electoral manifestos for 1997, 2000 and 2003 as well as other extracts from the local council’s own magazine.

Dr Sant was just echoing the various messages the Labour candidates received from their constituents during house visits. Contrary to what Dr Grima believes, the Msida residents believe that the PN-led local council failed to deliver in a number of areas particularly road maintenance, pavements, sport facilities and storm water management.

Dr Grima also wrote that Dr Sant was wrong when he talked about the Flood Relief Project, the twinning agreement, Msida Scate Park, work in Conception Street and the new local council building. Dr Grima forgets that he has been Msida mayor for nine years and thus he had ample time to deliver what the PN have promised.

We, tal-Labour, think that the Misidjani deserve much better. A Labour majority pledges a united front that will work wholeheartedly for the benefit of all Misidjani. I ask Msida residents to consider trusting us with their vote in order to manage their hometown. We need local councillors who question the status quo. We need councillors who criticise, if need be, the party in government even in the case that their own party is in power. We need local councillors that work in unison even with the councillors of the opposing party for the benefit of the locality.

We want to give Msida a better local council. Our team has the motivation, pro-activeness and talent to deliver. We promise an open channel of communication with the local residents. We are positive that with your vote the Labour councillors will continue to deliver and make a difference for the benefit of all Misidjani. For us Msida comes first.
