At a recent meeting of the Adjudicating Committee under the Chairmanship of Chief Justice Emeritus, Prof. J. J. Cremona, it was decided that as none of the entries for the above award for the year 2005, were up to standard, the Sportsmanship Trophy will not be awarded this year.
This is in keeping with the set high standards of sportsmanship acts for the trophy to be awarded. In fact this is not the first time in the history of the trophy that the committee decided so.
It is worthwhile remembering that in the past, Sportsmanship acts by Maltese which, as usual were brought to the attention of the international selection board at Unesco in Paris, were not only recognized by this world body, but four of the Maltese entries was given the international diploma while six others were presented with letters of congratulations.
While encouraging the media, the various national sports associations/federations and the general public to bring to the notice of the Sportsmanship Trophy Award Committee any sporting acts worthy of note, the committee would like to take this opportunity of publishing the list of past winners.
