Reference is made to the letter entitled “Billboards Galore” by Norman E. Grech (TMIS, 5 March).

The Malta Transport Authority would like to clarify that permits for the installation of permanent billboards are issued by MEPA following consultation with the Malta Transport Authority, which assesses applications from a traffic safety aspect.

Jurisdiction of billboards on any road falls under the Authority and is covered by Legal Notice 368 of 2004 “Erecting of Billboards on the Road Regulations, 2004”. In this respect, any permanent billboard on any road is allocated by the Malta Transport Authority following a call for tenders published in the Government Gazette.
