League leaders St Geoirge's made another bold step forward in their quest to gain a premier league berth, when they managed to obtain a dramatic equaliser in their derby against rivals Senglea, even though they were playing with a man less.

Senglea could have snatched an important and prestigious win with some luck, but substitute Spiteri's goal in injury time foiled their fruitful work througjhout the ninety minutes.

The match played in front of a sizeable crowd, mainly St George's supporters, had a rather slow start with Senglea more on the ball than their opponents. However the first attempt came the leaders' way when Bonello headed wide a Jesmond Delia freekick.

On nine minutes Senglea took the lead when goalkeeper Gatt could only punch a rather tricky Marlow cross from the left and Jason Borg slammed the ball home from the rebound.

This was a severe blow as St George's found the going hard and Senglea even though without key player Babolayefa, withstood the sterile St George's pressure.

The Saints only came to life in the dying stages of the first half with a Clive Brincat grounder testing Attard, and an Ewurun shot from an acute angle again saved by Senglea goalkeeper Attard.

The second half started with St. George's on the rampage in search for the equaliser. And they managed to level the score on 56 minutes when Anthony Bonello headed in a Trevor Thomas cross. Senglea responded with a Jason Borg drive from the edge of the area, but Gatt saved well.

On 65 minutes a Marlow free-kick slightly missed the target and four minutes later Senglea were back in the lead, when defender Simon Aquilina's powerful header found the back of the net following a corner action from the right. Immediately after this score referee Sammut sent off St George's player Brincat, apparently for dissent.

It was another double blow for the leaders, who had a good chance through Ewurun on 77 minutes. The Saints' goalkeeper Gatt escaped with only a yellow cards minutes for a nasty foul on Jason Borg.

St George's pushed everything forward in the dying minutes, with Mckay missing the killer touch near the end. However St George's were rewarded in injury time when substitute Johann Spiteri squeezed the ball home to the delight of the numerous St George's supporters.

After this goal, referee Sammut expelled Edgar Degabriele from the substitute's bench.
