I met Alfred Mallia in late 1987 when John Dalli threw us together on the creation of Mimcol.

For a number of years we worked together and I was always impressed at the way Alfred moved forward, fast but cautious with composure and resolve, always listening to what others had to say and always taking a collective decision, without ever shirking his personal responsibility from any of these decisions.

By the time that the board of Mimcol was changed, we had become very close friends and confidants and never stopped meeting for various reasons, including socially.

Alfred was always fretting on what was going on around him and the responsibility for everything he was asked to do, he always took to the full. Yet, despite his constant dedication and gravity, he always had a smile, a joke or a nice word for any circumstance that he was facing, be it positive or negative.

His wonderful family must have been very influential in the way he looked at life.

I must say that I have lost a true friend who, above all, was a gentleman.
