I am a keen walker and have often walked together with my family around Ta’ Cenc. The recent application for a major development around Ta’ Cenc got me very worried indeed. This got me to ask several questions, among which:
Does this mean that access to this massive area will be restricted, that tourists and locals alike will no longer be allowed to enjoy the rugged, beautiful scenery which we have hitherto been able to enjoy?
I feel proud of the Sannat residents who voted wisely and secured their hopes of safeguarding Ta’ Cenc by electing the candidate of Alternattiva Demokratika on their local council. They already gave a message to the two traditional parties that proposing a golf course at Ta’ Cenc or keeping silent about the proposed village on Ta’ Cenc, is not the way to go about doing things.
If we are aspiring to get tourists to visit Gozo in the off peak and shoulder months by building mega-projects like Ta’ Cenc, then I think we should think again.
