Last week hoteliers gave a rather gloomy picture of the way they see development in the tourism industry. They spoke of rising costs and lower income, among other things.
I believe that one solution to the current problems is the immediate introduction of services from low cost airlines.
This would enable more people to come over to Malta, possibly for shorter periods, but with money to spend. The money saved on flights would enter directly in the Maltese economy with their spending in hotels and in entertainment.
The government can no longer delay a decision on the matter. The more time passes, the more Malta will lose.
I am sure that a compromise can be reached to the satisfaction of all the stakeholders.
