Table-Football: Cremona Wins Malta Open

The fifth edition of the Malta International Open and the third edition of the Grand Prix of Table Football was organised by the MTFSA under the auspices of the International Federation FISTF at the Cottonera Sports Complex in Cospicua the past weekend.

The event attracted the participation of players from the countries of Italy, Greece, England, Wales, Belgium and Malta.

On Saturday, Malta’s Massimo Cremona (photo) won the International Open when, in an all Maltese final he beat Mark Gauci 3-2 on a golden goal.

To reach the final Cremona needed a golden goal winner to beat Hansel Mallia 2-1 in the semi-final while in the quarter-final he beat Italian Saverio Bari 1-0.

Gauci eliminated Italian Francesco Mattiangeli 2-0 in the semi-final while in the quarter-final he beat Samuel Bartolo 3-0.

In the Veteran category final, Patrick Pace beat Mario Spiteri 1-0, while in the Under 15 final, Timothy Spiteri beat Thomas Camilleri 4-0. In the Under 13 Matthew Pace beat Darren Bezzina 2-0.

On Sunday, it was the turn of Italian Saverio Bari to claim the Grand Prix when in the final he beat Mark Gauci 1-0.

In the Veteran category Patrick Pace confirmed himself again beating Mario Spiteri 3-0, in the Under 15 Andrew Abela beat Timothy Spiteri 1-0 while in the Under 13s, Matthew Pace beat Adam Gatt 1-0 on golden goal.

In the team competition there was the participation of Valletta SC, Hamrun TFC, Catania, Cardiff and Hennuyer.

It was Belgium side of Hennuyer who won the team event when in the final they beat Valletta SC marginally 2-1.
