Pembroke had no hassle in holding on to the honour won last year, and for the fourth time in its history. They took control over their opponents in the last two sessions, after starting with a good lead from the first match, and built their lead steadily till the end of the game.
Luxol recovered coach John Tabone, missing from the first final, while Pembroke included Jeffrey Gatt in their line-up, after a long term injury, which cost him a total of 14 matches.
Right from the start it was Luxol forcing the pace, and Pembroke making up the difference in points, but it was Luxol in the lead till the latter stages of the session.
Pembroke came back from the Violets' biggest lead, at 17-11. A 7-0 run, ending with an Etienne Bezzina, put them in front. Both sides then made their hoops, but Pembroke kept a minimal advantage.
In the second quarter, Luxol tried to build up a lead, and recover lost ground from the first match, and an 8-2 run put them back in front, but lapses in their zone permitted Adrian Micallef to ghost in behind the Luxol players, and a session-ending 8-0 run turned the score around. At the interval it was Pembroke on a 32-27 lead.
After the break it was Pembroke who started to dictate the play. Treys by Etienne Bezzina and Kristinn Baldacchino opened up a 42-31 score. Luxol reacted with a couple of hoops but Pembroke were in command, and another session-ending run, an 8-0 one, with a Michael Naudi trey, gave the holders a comfortable 50-35 lead with a session to go.
In the final quarter, Pembroke were oozing confidence as Luxol strove hard for a face-saving session. Etienne Bezzina kept up his 3-point exploits, as Pembroke increased their lead.
Robert Azzopardi also landed a couple of treys for Luxol, as the points were going in at both ends. The young subs went in as the end of the match petered out in a convincing win for Pembroke.
After the match both sets of players were presented with medals by the president emeritus, Louis Borg, as Pembroke kept hold of the Cup won last year.
